This page offers a step-by-step guide to help you check your eligibility, apply for WCCC, and complete the process efficiently.

What is WCCC?

The Working Connections Child Care (WCCC) program helps families with low incomes pay for child care while parents work, attend school, or engage in other approved activities. Eligibility is determined based on income and family circumstances.

To determine if you qualify for WCCC, follow these steps:

Visit the Washington Connection Eligibility Tool and input your family size, income, and activity status. This tool will provide an estimate of your eligibility.

  2. Review Eligibility Guidelines
Families earning up to 60% of the state median income (SMI) are typically eligible. For exact figures, visit the DCYF Income Eligibility Chart.

Before you begin your application, collect the following:

  • Proof of Income: Pay stubs, tax returns, or other proof of household income.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does the WCCC approval process take?
Applications are typically processed within 30 days, provided all documents are submitted on time.

2. What if I don’t qualify for WCCC?
We can help explore other subsidy programs or payment options that may fit your needs.

3. Will WCCC cover the full cost of child care?
WCCC subsidizes most costs, but families may have a co-payment based on their income.

4. How do I determine my family size?
Washington State doesn’t necessarily define family in the same way that families define themselves. For the purposes of applying for child care assistance, family size typically includes just the parent(s) and child(ren) living under the same roof. Other grownups and children in the house, for example grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, aren’t included in the calculation of family size.

5. Are high school student parents eligible to receive child care assistance?
Yes, high school student parents and parents 21 years old or younger that are completing a high school equivalency certificate are eligible for child care assistance.

6. Are college students eligible for child care assistance?
Yes! Parents participating in a vocational education program at a community, technical, or tribal college that will lead to an associate degree or registered apprenticeship program will not have to meet work requirements to receive child care assistance. Parents must meet other eligibility requirements.
